I had always been overweight, even as a little girl. I was always the "big girl with the pretty smile." The miseries that smile could tell if only it could talk! My highest weight was 315 lbs. I was always tired, had constant back pain, and I started to develop blood pressure issues. I am a nurse and knew full well the negative health effects of morbid obesity but I did not know how to fix myself!
Realizing I needed help, I did some reaseach, spoke to some weight loss surgery patients, and did some deep soul searching. Was I ready to give up the food that was a comfort to me for so long? In short, YES!!!
On June 4, 2007 my life was forever changed by having gastric bypass surgery. I feel incredibly wonderful! I have so much energy now! I smile because I am so happy with the way I look and feel. I realize now, that before the surgery, I was settling for less and we all deserve the BEST!

I was miserable at 334 lbs. My blood sugar was out of control. My blood pressure was steadily climbing. I was traveling every week and the extra weight presented many challenges. Airline seats were uncomfortable not to mention that the seatbelts would not fit around me!
I underwent surgery December 2005.I lost 18 lbs. the first week and have continued to lose weight slowly and safely. My blood pressure began to return to an acceptable level and my blood sugar is better than it had been in years!
My waist size has gone from a size 54 to a comfortable 38. I exercise four to five times a week by either biking or walking. I love to walk and often find myself on eight mile walks. LIfe is great!

I always considered myself a professional dieter. I have lost the same 50 pounds every year for the last 25 years! Losing weight was never the problem, keeping it off was! After watching a T.V program on weight loss surgery, I decided that I wanted and needed to do something about my weight. My sister and I had Lap Band surgery in October 2007 and have been "losing" ever since!
I now find myself doing little things that I hadn't before. My energy level has gone through the roof! I finally feel like I'm not on a diet anymore. I make healthy food choices and my eating style is much more natural now. I know that my success is a result of many factors. I make better food choices, I work out with a personal trainer, and I attend support groups on a regular basis. My only regret is that I should have had this surgery sooner!

Today is a great day! I can't really think of a bad day since I had my Lap Band surgery! My weight issues started when I was about eight years old and was considered the "chubby" child. My weight increased over the years and after three children, my weight ballooned! I tried plenty of diets and diet medications to no avail. My legs and hips were hurting and I could not walk any distance without becoming short of breath. I needed three pillows to sleep because of my gastric reflux and I used inhalers frequently for my asthma.
One day, at a family reunion, a picture was taken that changed my life. The "before" picture on the left was the final straw. I did not realize I had gained so much weight until I saw this picture! In June 2007, I underwent Lap Band surgery. My health is improved, I can breath better and it does not hurt to walk long distances. This surgery gave me back my life!

My weight loss journey has been what I would call exciting! It has been very hard to adjust to new eating habits, exercise, and just a new way of life. However, it has been the best thing I hcould have ever done for myself, not just for me but for my family as well.
When I decided to go on this journey I had high blood pressure and alot of aches and pains. Now I feel much better, I have more energy, and I no longer take any medication!
Along the way I have had great support but most of all, I have met new friends that know the road I have (and still am) traveling and now we travel it together! I have lost a total of 140 pounds and it has been worth every step but no matter where I go, I never want to forget where I came from!
